Summary
The recent surge in food prices is just another challenge students are facing due to the pandemic.
With donations to this campaign, grocery gift cards will be purchased and distributed this winter to students accessing Fanshawe’s on-campus food bank, The Sharing Shop. This Giving Tuesday, we need your help to meet our goal of raising $10,000 to ensure as many students as possible are able to purchase the groceries they need this winter.
Vision
Our vision is to alleviate some of the financial burdens Fanshawe’s most vulnerable students are facing.
This year, Canadians are experiencing the highest increase in food prices ever due to the pandemic and effects of climate change. According to the Canada’s Food Price Report, individuals will spend about $292/month or $3,498 a year on groceries in 2021.
Food is a necessity and one of the largest expenses for students; increases in food costs can literally break the bank for some students. The need is clear for Fanshawe students: approximately 10 per cent of students access The Sharing Shop.
Impact
No student should have to worry about their next meal.
We are encouraging our Fanshawe family and friends to help by making a secure online donation this Giving Tuesday. Our goal is to buy one day’s worth of groceries for at least 1,000 Fanshawe students. Any amount will help Fanshawe students access the necessities:
- A $10 donation will help a student purchase groceries for the day
- A $75 donation will help a student purchase groceries for a week
- A $300 donation will help a student purchase groceries for the entire month
All donations will even be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Fanshawe College Alumni Association, which means you can double the impact of your gift!
You can feel great knowing every dollar of your gift will support Fanshawe students. You’ll also be issued a charitable tax receipt from Fanshawe College Foundation.
Another way you can help is by sharing this campaign with your Fanshawe friends. A way to do this is by posting your ‘unselfie’ on social media with the hashtag #FanshaweGivingTuesday. If you haven’t already, follow the Fanshawe Alumni social accounts for ‘unselfie’ inspiration on Giving Tuesday.
Thank you for your generosity as we enter the holiday season. Your donation will make a real difference to Fanshawe students who need it most.
